An interview with Jennifer L. Adams

Q: What kind of books do you write?
I write new adult fantasy romance with emotional depth, flawed characters, and just the right amount of magic. I’m drawn to themes like love, loss, and light vs. dark. My stories often explore what power looks like in different forms—especially when a heroine claims her strength on her own terms.

Q: What inspired you to become a writer?
I’ve wanted to write stories since I first learned to read. As a kid, I spent summers at my grandmother’s house, typing up little stories on her ancient computer. I set that dream aside for a while to focus on school and my career—but the desire never left. After becoming a mom, writing became both an escape and a way to keep a promise I made to myself years ago: that I would write a book someday.

Q: Tell us about your debut novel!
My debut, Under the Cygnet Moon, releases Fall 2025. It’s a new adult fantasy romance about a heroine who has lost everything—and must uncover the true source of her power in a world full of secrets, sacrifice, and magical romance.

Q: What do you hope readers love most about your stories?
The characters. They’re beautifully imperfect and often broken in some way, but they still fight, love, and grow. I especially love writing strong female leads who are allowed to be both powerful and feminine—who carry a quiet kind of strength that I think a lot of readers will connect with.

Q: Which authors have influenced you the most?
Kristin Cashore has had a huge influence on me—her writing is sharp, emotional, and deeply human. I also fell in love with reading again thanks to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Like so many women in this season of life, those stories reminded me that I still love epic worlds and messy, magical love stories.

Q: What’s something fun or unexpected about you?
I’m a total strategy game and puzzle nerd! My husband actually proposed to me with a hand-crafted cryptex, and we have monthly game nights with friends. I love shows like Survivor and never say no to a good escape room.

Q: Where do you live, and what’s your life like outside of writing?
I’m based in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. I’m a wife and mom, and when I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me curled up on the couch watching TV or movies, snuggling with my daughter or our two dogs. I also have an MBA and a background in corporate leadership, so I bring a mix of creativity and strategy to everything I do.

Q: What’s next for you?
Right now, I’m focused on launching Under the Cygnet Moon and connecting with readers. I can’t wait to share more stories in this world—and hopefully inspire someone else to chase that quiet dream they’ve been carrying around for years.
